A smarter way to learn mountain safety

Learn online. Apply it in the mountains.

WEMountain is the first international mountain training programme to combine self-paced digital learning with expert-led terrain courses.

Weather shifts overnight. A snowpack builds and weakens over weeks.

The better you read the mountain, the better you decide.

The case for training, in four numbers

90%

of avalanches are triggered by the victim or a member of their group. Most accidents come down to decisions, and decisions can be trained.

15 min

is the window that matters. A buried rider recovered inside 15 minutes usually survives.

After that the odds fall fast, so the people you ride with are the rescue team.

30–45°

is where most avalanches release. The same angles hold the best riding, which is exactly why reading them is worth learning.

+223%

is the rise in backcountry accidents in Switzerland since 2005, with more than 100 lives lost to avalanches in the Alps in an average winter.

More of us are out there than ever. Training keeps it that way.

“The avalanche does not know that you are an expert.”

André Roch · Pioneering Swiss avalanche researcher

Riders held small against big terrain

Freedom, with awareness built in.

For a long time, the send-off at the top was “good luck”. Riders deserve better than luck.

WEMountain was founded by riders who spent their lives in the world’s biggest mountains and built the training they wished everyone could have.

We love the mountains for the freedom they give us, and our job is to help more people feel it, with the knowledge to make safer choices.

Risk never drops to nothing out there. Stronger skills, clearer communication and better judgement change what happens next.

Our vision is to become the education reference for mountain sports, every season, from freeride to mountain biking.

What riders say

Confidence you can take into the mountains.

Real experiences from people who completed WEMountain training and changed how they prepare, communicate and ride.

Freeride skier in deep snow

“I used to follow whoever sounded most confident. Now I ask the questions myself, and I know why I am asking them.”

Léa · Freeride skier, Chamonix
Snowboarder riding a steep face

“The online course changed how I plan. The terrain course changed how I ride. Our group now talks through every call before we drop.”

Marco · Snowboarder, Innsbruck
Ski tourer climbing a ridge

“After fifteen winters I thought I knew the mountains. The training showed me how much of my judgement was habit, not knowledge.”

The change riders report most after training: sharper risk assessment and more awareness on the mountain.

Knowledge, used when it mattered

When an avalanche buried riders from another group, a certified WEMber recognised what was happening and acted.

He assessed the slope, organised the people around him, used the equipment and began the search.

The buried rider made it out. Practised knowledge becomes useful action when every minute counts.

Confidence is built before the first turn

01

Read what is changing

Weather, snowpack and terrain interact constantly. Learn the signals and what they mean for your plan.

“The mountain rewards the rider who reads it.”

Safety Angel · Freeride World Tour
02

Decide before the pressure

Set your options, limits and turning points early. Clear calls come easier before visibility drops, fatigue sets in or group pressure builds.

“Most accidents are decisions. Decisions can be trained.

Every course was created in partnership with more than 50 international experts: certified instructors, UIAGM guides, nivologists, doctors and athletes with years in the terrain.

“Even the most experienced riders keep learning.”

Practise what you learn

Simple explanations. Real scenarios. Practical actions you can still remember on a cold morning at 3,000 metres.

“Practice is what your hands remember when your head is racing.
